Tips to Keep Your Closet Organized
1. Sort Your Clothes by Category
A simple way to organize your clothes is to distribute them by type. Separate it into categories such as pants, dresses, blouses, outerwear, accessories and underwear. Then, sort all the items in a single category before moving on to the next.
As you move forward, keep only the clothes you love and know you wear often. If you have any clothing, place it in the donation pile.
2. Empty and Clean Your Closet
Once you’ve sorted your clothes, shoes, and accessories into piles, go through your closet and take out anything else that’s still in there. When it’s completely empty, give your closet a deep clean.

3. Design Your Ideal Closet
Think about and write down what the best features of your ideal closet are, maybe you have lots of vertical storage space, built-in shelving or several hanging rods. Use them to your advantage, in the case of the areas that are not so good, find out what you can do to solve the problem. For example, you can use a hanging shoe organizer to store T-shirts and large plastic containers to store beach clothes.
4. Save Your Clothes by Category
Keep similar items together. Store all your belts in the same place, hang your summer dresses next to each other, and separate your workout shirts from your pajamas.
5. Hang any Delicate, Elegant or Sturdy Object
Maybe you have room to hang every single t-shirt you own, but if not, just hang the obvious things. Like dresses, skirts and lingerie, dressy items like suits and chunky pieces like coats and blazers.
To give your closet a clean, cheerful look, hang everything in the same direction. That is, the longest items should go on the left side and the shorter ones on the right side so that the bottom of your clothing creates an upward sloping line.
6. Use Hooks of the Same Color
Limit visual clutter and give your closet a sleek, streamlined look by using the same color hooks for your clothes.
Just make sure you invest in hooks that actually work for what you have. Opt for sturdy velvet hooks rather than thin plastic varieties, for example, for hanging heavy suits. And avoid wooden hangers if you have a lot of slippery silk blouses.
7. Stack Thick Items Like Jeans and Sweaters
Save space in the drawers and on the rod of your closet. Pile on bulky winter sweaters and stiff jeans. These items can stack neatly on shelf space because they are sturdy and thick, meaning they won’t slump, wrinkle, or lose their shape when you bend them.
8. Roll T-shirts, Pajamas, and Sportswear Into Storage Boxes
Things like cotton t-shirts, leggings, and polyester shorts tend to be thin and flexible, making them perfect candidates for the roll and fold technique.
This technique saves a lot of space if you do it right. Instead of folding and stacking your softer, thinner clothes, simply fold them in half and roll them into small tubes.
